A Message from CSG's Leaders & Executive Director

Dear Friends:

As we begin 2008, we are very pleased to invite you to join The Council of State Governments in celebrating a significant milestone in our organization’s history…75 years of service to state leaders.

Established in 1933, under the genius and drive of former Colorado state Senator Henry Toll, CSG evolved into the community of state governments that Toll envisioned. It was a vision that spans all three branches, across all regions of the country, in which state executives, lawmakers, and judges work closely together. CSG became the voice and pulse of state government.

We encourage you, our current leaders, international partners and CSG Associate members, to mark your calendars for important dates throughout 2008 beginning with a spectacular spring conference in our headquarters city of Lexington, Kentucky, May 29– June 1. We have invited our past presidents and chairs, and our affiliate organizations. We will hold special policy sessions featuring Newt Gingrich, Michael Beschloss, and federal and state-level dignitaries. And, the Commonwealth of Kentucky will host a reception at Keeneland, Kentucky’s world-renowned race course.

As we move through the year, we hope to see you at an exciting, unique event, CSG’s first-ever Interbranch Summit of the States, June 22–24, in Bismarck, North Dakota.

We also invite you to join us for CSG’s regional conferences throughout the summer, and our grand finale annual conference in Omaha, Nebraska, December 4–7.

Please visit our 75th anniversary Web page at www.csg.org and learn more about CSG’s anniversary celebration events and the history of the organization through the years. Enjoy the historical photographs, hear the voice of Henry Toll from our early conferences, and listen to current state leaders talk about their experiences with CSG’s important policy work and multi-state problem solving initiatives.

We look forward to celebrating this landmark event with you during 2008, and to continuing working closely with you to strengthen states for the future.

Sincerely,

Governor M. Jodi Rell, Connecticut
CSG President

Representative Kim Koppelman, North Dakota
